Pupil to compete in Special Olympics

Coedcae School pupil Robert Phibben has been selected to represent Great Britain in Kayaking at the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens in 2011. When asked how he felt when he received his letter Robert replied " happy and excited". When asked what he was excited about Robert said "winning more medals and going on the plane".

Headteacher Pete Spencer commented "the whole school is very proud of Robert, his outstanding achievement is an inspiration to us all. He is always positive and his determination is remarkable. We are all right behind him and looking forward to cheering him on when he competes. If Robert were to win a medal I think he would here the cheering from Coedcae in Anthens."

Robert, who attends a special class at Coedcae is required to raise £2000 in order to compete. His teacher Laura Tucker says "All the pupils are very interested in what Robert is doing and the whole school is keen to support his participation at the Olympics. A fund raising committee involving teachers and pupils has been set up and we have some imaginative ideas for fun activities that will raise money. We are keen to raise more than the minimum requirement to ensure that Robert can compete to the best of his ability and maximise his enjoyment from this incredible experience"

Any other organisation who is willing to support Robert's Olympic participation can contact the school on 01554
